18 Gold Team Tournament Recaps
Revolutionary Rumble - April 29 & 30, 2023 - Williamsburg, VA
Overall Results: Saturday: 2-1 Sunday: 1-1 Made the Silver Playoffs and lost in the finals. Finished 8th out of 14 teams.
Team Highlights:
This was our last tournament for the 2023 season and the last club tournament for the seven seniors on our team. So to say that it was emotional would be an understatement. The girls fought hard on Saturday winning our first two matches in three sets each and then losing a tough match to the Metro 18 National team to finish the day. This put us in the Silver Playoffs on Sunday; and after winning the semifinal match, we unfortunately lost a three-set thriller in the finals. However, we did receive medals, so that eased the pain just a bit.
I cannot say enough good about this group of girls. We have had a blast all season long playing together, laughing together and just enjoying being together. These kids are some of the most friendly girls I know, and it has been an honor for us to coach them and to be a part of their lives. We had a tremendous season, playing in five tough tournaments and receiving medals in three of them.
We wish the seniors the best of luck as they end this season of their life and prepare to begin the next. All of these girls will do great things in this world.

Boardwalk Block Party - April 22 & 23, 2023 - Atlantic City Convention Center, Atlantic City, NJ
Overall Results: Saturday: 2-1 Sunday: 1-1 Made it to the Gold finals but lost in the first round. We finished tied for 9th out of 20 teams.
Team Highlights: What a fun tournament!! It is always fun to go away and to stay together for tournaments, and this one was just that . . . a lot of fun!! Our hotel was right on the beach (and Kaylie and Cara took full advantage of that . . . even in their clothes), and we were within walking distance of the Convention Center (which was nice despite the threat of rain). It was fun being together and of course playing together. It was also fun playing some new and different teams. On Saturday we rolled easily through our first two matches and then came up against a team that was much better. Unfortunately, we came out on the losing end of that match. But that still put us into the Gold Playoffs, which is always our ultimate goal. On Sunday we fought hard against our first round opponent, but they proved to be too much for us. So that put us in a consolation match, which is always fun simply because the pressure is off. Despite finishing lower than we had hoped, it was still a ton of fun!! Player Recognition:
Tournament Team MVP: The MVP for CAVE 18 Gold for the Boardwalk Block Party was KAYLIE HANNA. Throughout the entire weekend, especially on Sunday, Kaylie made this tournament live up to its name . . . it was definitely a "block party;" and she put on a blocking clinic. She had her hands on the ball a lot throughout this tournament and frustrated many of the opposing hitters. The match on Sunday morning was arguably the best match Kaylie has played in her entire career. She was hitting with power and intelligence; and she was a dominating force on the block. It was a lot of fun to watch. She led the team in block kills with 10, and also led the team in kills with 34. She deserves to be our MVP for this tournament. Congrats Kaylie. Keep playing at this high level for the rest of this club season and also as you head off to play in college. Way to go girl!! Submitted by: Head Coach, Bobby Culler |
Irish Rumble - March 11 & 12, 2023 - United Sports Training Center, Downington, PA
Overall Results: Saturday: 2-1 Sunday: 2-1 Made it to the Gold finals but lost. We finished 2nd out of 20 teams.
Team Highlights:
What an awesome tournament!! Talk about an exhausting weekend of volleyball. Whew!! After a successful day on Saturday (going 2-1 in our pool), we set ourselves up to be in the Gold Division of playoffs on Sunday. That’s when the awesomeness began and the exhaustion set in.
We played three matches on Sunday, and all three of them were three-set nail biters of exceptional volleyball. In the Quarter Finals, we played West Shore YMCA and we were back and forth the entire match. We won the first game and they won the second game; and we pulled out a thriller in the third game to win 16-14--onto the semis.
There were faced a very talented Coastal team with a dominant outside hitter.--another back and forth match. They won the first game, we won the second game and we pulled out yet another nail biter in the third to win 15-12. It was fun to see the girls play at such a high level. They played with an incredible intensity and determination on defense--so good!
Onto the Gold Finals to determine first and second place. We were facing a team that we had already played twice this season and had beaten both times. I guess the third time was their charm. They beat us in three sets; and honestly, I believe we just ran out of gas. But, 2nd place out of 20 teams is not something to be disappointed about. I was super proud of each of our players and it was definitely a total team effort.
Player Recognition: (The following stats are ONLY from the three matches on Saturday.)
Tournament Team MVP:
I honestly cannot pick an MVP for this tournament. As I said earlier, this was a total team effort across the board (offensively and defensively). We were very proud of everyone for the effort that was displayed. They gave everything they had and left it all on the court. Excited to come home with the second place medal!! Prez Day Showdown - February 18 & 19, 2023 - York Expo, York, PA
|
Overall Results: Saturday: 3-1 Sunday: 1-1 Lost in the quarters of the Gold Playoffs. We finished 5th out of 17 teams.
Team Highlights: What a great tournament!! I am always biased when it comes to my team, and I always believe that we are a good team. But when other people notice and comment on our team, that is truly satisfying. Here are a few comments from people on the outside looking in . . . “You guys have a really good team.” (Prevail Coach and also Jr National Referee). “You guys were a lot of fun to play against.” (Player from one of our opponents). “Your team has a lot of energy on the court.” (College Coach watching and interested in some of our players). Those are fun comments to hear and to receive. We really do have a great team and these girls really are a ton of fun to coach and to be with. We had a great weekend of high-level volleyball. Both of the matches that we lost, we lost in 3. The highlight of the tournament was our first match on Sunday. What an incredible match!!! We lost the first set 23-25, and then won a thrilling second set with the score of 32-30 (WOW!!!), but then lost a heartbreaker in the third set 12-15. This team went on to win the Gold Playoffs and come in first place. We were that close!!! A second highlight was our second match on Sunday and final match of the tournament. We played super loose and had the chance to give some girls some opportunities that they do not normally have. And then, after we won, we shook our opponents hands and turned only to see a long string of our parents lining the court to shake our hands as well. AWESOME!! JUST AWESOME!!! It was a great weekend. Player Recognition: Noticeable stats from each of our players . . . . .
Tournament Team MVP: The MVP of the “Prez Day Showdown” tournament for CAVE 18 Gold is Paige Davis. Paige has come a long way in a short time in her ability and confidence to be a leader of our team. She is a consistent setter with good hands and a confident person at the service line. Throughout this tournament, she and our other setter, Chloe Hagenbuch, did an amazing job of distributing the ball to all our hitters and made good decisions when we needed it the most. Paige has embraced her role as one of the quarterbacks of our team and does a great job in that position. Here is a look at her stats for the tournament.
Congrats Paige on being our MVP of the Prez Day Showdown. Submitted by: Head Coach, Bobby Culler |
MLK Kickoff Challenge - January 14-16, 2023 - Spooky Nook Sports Complex, Manheim, PA
Overall Results:
Saturday: 3-0 Sunday: 1-2 Monday: 2-0 . . . . . Won the Silver playoffs and received medals. We finished 7th out of 24 teams for a final match record of 6-2. Team Highlights: What a great weekend!! This group of girls is one of the most fun teams I have ever been a part of. They encourage each other and pick each other up, and actually have fun playing. So fun to watch. After losing the very first game of the tournament, the girls rebounded and went on to win the next six games in a row to go 3-0 and Saturday. That put us in the upper half, and is always the case, things get a bit harder the second day. On Sunday, we played awful in our first match . . . played outstanding in our second match . . . and played okay in our third match (but really needed to play great). We ended Sunday going 1-2 and were headed for the Silver Playoffs. On Monday our first match of playoffs was a tough one. But the girls showed a lot of character and heart and came through with the victory, which put us in the finals. We went on to win the Silver Playoff Championship and received medals for the weekend. It was awesome and all in all, I felt like we played at a pretty high level throughout the weekend. Can’t wait for the next tournament. Player Recognition: A few players to recognize from this tournament include the following:
Tournament MVP: The MVP of the “MLK Kickoff Challenge” tournament for CAVE 18 Gold is Camryn Madden. Cam had an excellent tournament all the way around . . . offensively and defensively. But if you ask her how she did, she would say that it wasn’t good enough. She’s hard on herself, which drives her to do her best. She truly gets excited when her teammates do great things. She served well and finished well throughout the entire weekend. Here is a look at her stats for the tournament.
Congrats Cam!!! Well-deserved honor. Submitted by: Head Coach, Bobby Culler |
