Meet the Directors & Coaches
Ty Frelin, Club Director
Ty has been involved as a coach with the Chambersburg Area High School Girls' Volleyball program since 1986, serving as head coach for the past 36 seasons. Over this time his teams have qualified for the Pennsylvania
District III tournament annually, in addition to claiming ten Mid-Penn championships since 1995, with one run of five consecutive championship seasons. In addition to the teams' successes, Ty has had the opportunity to work with and train many fine student athletes. He has helped them to develop from young girls when they arrive at Chambersburg, into mature, young ladies who have aspired to continue their volleyball careers. Many of Ty's former high school players have gone on to play collegiate volleyball at the Division I, II or III levels. In previous years Ty has played, officiated and coached in the USA KRVA region for several clubs and is currently a registered PIAA official. Using his experience in all these aspects of this great sport of volleyball, he has helped re-establish the girls' division of Chambersburg Area Volleyball Express (CAVE), which gives players who want to train and prepare to play at the next level the opportunity to do so. Currently, he serves as director of the club. In addition to the players Ty has had the pleasure of working with, he has also been blessed to have many assistants and volunteer coaches coach for him. Several of these individuals have stayed in the sport and are currently coaching high school or club teams throughout the east coast. Personally, Ty will be celebrating his 34th anniversary with his wife Barb in February. He has three great children: son, Zach and daughter-in-law, Emily, and granddaughters, Ryah and Eliza, and grandson Caius, who live in Chambersburg; daughter, Katie, son-in-law, Zac and granddaughter, Peyton and grandson, Parker, who currently reside in Chambersburg; and daughter, Karli, who is living in Raleigh, North Carolina, working as a nanny while pursuing a Master's Degree in Christian Counseling. |
Bobby Culler, Club Associate Director/Head Coach 15 Gold Team
Bobby has been involved in coaching volleyball since 1990 when he became a volunteer assistant with the Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, High School Girls' Volleyball program. During that time he helped with both the JV and Varsity squads and continued to learn more about the game of volleyball. In 2000 he was given the opportunity to become the Head Coach of the Junior Varsity team in that program; and since that time, he and his teams have seen a lot of success. He has helped to develop his players into confident young ladies, both within the sport of volleyball and in life itself.
Bobby is a full-time Youth Pastor and he has been at the Mt. Pleasant Church, located in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, since 1987. Helping students and players reach their fullest potentials in life comes naturally for him and is certainly a passion and purpose for his life. His role as Youth Pastor and as coach has given him ample opportunities to be an encouragement to his players and to their families, and he has had the extreme privilege of helping the players on his team deal with adversity and struggle that often comes in life. Bobby and his wife, Amy, have two of the most wonderful children in the world. Cayla is a graduate from Messiah College. She played volleyball in high school and also for the CAVE Volleyball Club, and is currently a teacher for students with behavioral needs. Their son, Dylan, is a graduate of Liberty University with a degree in Global Studies and has a strong desire to have a positive influence all over this world. He wants to use his passion for volleyball to begin leagues in other countries. To say that we are proud of our children would be a significant understatement. Bobby counts it as a privilege and an honor to coach the student athletes who cross his path and to help them to become the best they can be, both in the sport of volleyball and in life. It is a joy for him to invest his time and energy in the lives of his players and their families. |

Trust your teammates to do their job.” It all starts with self-preparation. But the final step “trust” and “teammates” entail a few things. It is tough to trust a teammate without being a good teammate. Things like positivity and encouragement go a long way in team building. Teamwork is the key to good volleyball. |
