2018 Tournament Results/Highlights
MLK Kickoff Classic - January 13-15, 2018 - Lancaster, PA
The 17 Gold team began the season with a very successful showing at the MLK Kickoff Classic Tournament at the Spooky Nook Complex in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. We scrambled a bit on Saturday because we were without both of our middle blockers (Ashley Adams had a basketball event and Allison Crevier was sick). So we adjusted and put people in positions they weren’t accustomed to play; and yet we had a great first day going 2-1. Our only loss was to a team from Puerto Rico – the eventual winner of the 17 American division. We played well and everyone stepped up and played as a team.
On Sunday we had a full team and again played well going 2-1 again, and our loss that day was to the eventual second place winner of the 17 American division. All of that qualified us for the Gold Playoffs and after making a good run at it, we eventually lost in the first round on Monday.
I was pleased with the way we played throughout the whole weekend. We beat the teams we should have and competed with the teams that were really good. I told the girls that if we can just fix a few things, we will beat the really good teams and go deeper into the playoffs each tournament. It was a great weekend and I’m excited about the rest of the season.
This is a special group of young ladies and I have really enjoyed getting to know them and spending time with them at practices and over the MLK weekend. Great things lie ahead.
